ISO 17025:2017 Accredited Laboratory Certified
The Via Seating mechanical testing laboratory is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) and its issued reports and product certifications are globally recognized. Our laboratory’s main activities include ergonomic measurement, stability testing, strength testing and durability testing. Test methods are based on BIFMA standards for general and large occupant office and lounge seating products. The design and engineering teams utilize the laboratory for product certification, new and existing product evaluation and continuous improvement. Access to an in-house ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory leads to a higher quality final product.
Our products are annually assessed by a 3rd party team of chemists & globally-recognized ISO 17025 accredited lab. Via products are rigorously tested for conformance to ANSI/BIFMA e3 standard credits 7.6.1, 7.6.2 and/or credit 7.6.3 as well as conference to low-emitting materials. This is in addition to our extensive and continous functionality & durability tests conducted within Via Seating’s internal, ISO 17025:2017 accredited lab.
99% of Via Seating product is BIFMA LEVEL®2 certified & CLEAN AIR GOLD certified by Intertek, an independent testing laboratory. LEVEL®is BIFMA’s sustainability certification program for furniture.
Via Seating maintains one consistent & trustworthy BIFMA lead measuring process across all our seating.
Ensuring one concise system of measurement
Dimensions for all Via Seating products are measured using the BIFMA Chair Measuring Device® (CMD), a patented device created by the Business and Industrial Furniture Manufacturers Association (BIFMA) to “ensure that chairs are measured uniformly whatever the country of manufacture, the laboratory performing the measurements, or the applicable standards” to which a product is developed or built. Via uses the BIFMA/CMD-1-2013 UNIVERSAL MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE® FOR THE USE OF BIFMA CHAIR MEASURING DEVICE® (CMD) when measuring products to record universally acceptable dimensions.
The dimensions recorded from the measurements taken using the BIFMA CMD and measurement procedures can be used to verify conformance to the BIFMA G1-2013 ERGONOMICS GUIDELINE FOR FURNITURE USED IN OFFICE WORK SPACES DESIGNED FOR COMPUTER USE and cannot be replicated using any measuring device (ie. tape measure or ruler) other than the BIFMA CMD.
Sometimes dimensions recorded using the BIFMA CMD don’t translate well to customer’s expectations, ie. the Reset armrest length is 1.5” as measured with the BIFMA tools. We are able to show alternate dimensions for any values like this that we feel don’t provide a realistic view of the product with a clear disclaimer that these alternate dimensions are for informational purposes only.
