Copper Mesh

Via Seating has developed a unique copper-infused mesh for use in seating by partnering with Cupron, utilizing their copper-based proprietary and patented technology. The copper mesh works by physically embedding an EPA-registered copper into the fibers of our copper mesh. Through this process, the copper will not wear off like topically applied alternatives. The result is a patented, self-sanitizing, copper-infused mesh chair that has strong biocidal, antifungal, and antiviral properties. There are additional anti-odor properties to the copper mesh as well. It is available in natural (ie. “copper color”) and black finishes.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted U.S. Patent Numbers 10986938 & 11389009 for its Copper-Infused Mesh Seating. More here

Our Copper Seating is…

Biocidal+

Biocidal+

Via’s patented copper-infused mesh seating is naturally biocidal (ie. kills harmful microorganisms on contact). It is also antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-odor. No harmful additives are needed to achieve any of these effects!

Award-Winning

Award-Winning

Genie Copper Mesh® won the 2017 Best of NeoCon award for Innovation in Healthcare Textiles and a Silver Nightingale Award at the 2017 HCD show for healthcare textiles.

Self-Sanitizing

Self-Sanitizing

Copper exhibits a highly researched oligodynamic effect. This natural antimicrobial property—ie. no additives are used to achieve this—enables copper to literally disinfect itself over time. Through the oligodynamic effect, copper ions instinctively bind to bacteria, viruses and other pathogens in a way that deactivates & destroys those harmful cells.

A Lasting Infusion

A Lasting Infusion

Unlike topicals that rub off & can create an uneven application with trouble areas, Via Seating copper collection chairs have their EPA-registered CUPRON copper infused directly into the mesh. The result is a lasting application that is approved for use in healthcare environments and more. Genie Copper Mesh® even has heavy duty and 24/7 environment applications.

Client Problem

Client Problem

Prior to the introduction of Via Seating’s patented copper-infused mesh back seating, the accepted seating solution for clinical areas was to have a high performance chair that was upholstered in an antimicrobial textile specifically designed for healthcare to be bleach cleanable. When a prominent healthcare client visited the Via Seating factory and fell in love with the mesh back Genie® series we knew we needed to find a solution for them.

Via Solution

Via Solution

Within the same year, Via Seating developed our later patented, copper-infused mesh back seating. We knew we needed to prove that Genie Copper Mesh® was safe to meet the rigorous healthcare use cleaning standards & be a viable, lasting solution for our client. Through independent 3rd party testing by an accredited lab, we tested & proved that our copper-infused Genie Copper Mesh® could not only meet, but outperform the current, accepted technical textiles for healthcare.

3rd Party Testing

3rd Party Testing

The independent 3rd party testing was performed using three different microorganisms:

  • Staphylococcusaureus, a gram positive bacteria
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae, a gram negative bacteria
  • Candida albicans, a yeast per AATCC-100

These were applied on the following surface textiles currently in use in clinical environments:

  • Krypton
  • Silvertex
  • Silica
  • Genie Copper Mesh®
  • Genie® mesh (without copper)
Successful Results

Successful Results

Over a two hour contact time, Genie Copper Mesh® reduced the three bacteria by 99.9%. Silvertex had comparable results. These results showed that the Genie Copper Mesh® outperformed the textiles currently in use in clinical areas. Therefore, this mesh back task chair is better than a fully upholstered back task chair for clinical areas and is equal to chairs upholstered with Silvertex. With this confirmed, we were able to install Genie Copper Mesh® in the hospital setting for our prominent healthcare client.

Via Seating did not stop at conducting a single test. We went on to test both of our copper-infused mesh colors (natural copper & dyed black copper) to confirm that both would successfully reduce harmful microorganisms within an hour. The results confirmed that both sample colors regardless of dying process show reduction against harmful organisms in as little as 30 minutes!
